A Legacy of Generosity: Virginia and David Baldwin
Virginia and David Baldwin's commitment to philanthropy was rooted in a deep desire to uplift others, particularly those facing life's greatest challenges. David, a New Hampshire native and an accomplished entrepreneur, built a successful career in electronics and software before turning his attention to giving back. Together, he and Virginia dedicated themselves to causes that aligned with their values, investing in education, healthcare, and social services to create lasting change.
After Virginia's passing in 2008, David continued their shared mission, becoming a transformative force in the St. Petersburg community. He sought out organizations where his contributions could make a tangible impact, often taking the time to visit and personally understand the needs of those he supported. He formed a deep connection with Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg after attending a breakfast event, where he saw firsthand the life-changing opportunities the school provides to promising, hardworking scholars. What began as an annual gift grew into a commitment of $17,000 per year—enough to fund a full scholarship.
Though Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg knew Baldwin as a generous supporter, we never expected the extraordinary legacy he left behind. When a final gift from his estate arrived, it was not the modest bequest we had hoped for, but a transformational $9.5 million—by far the largest in the school's history. His generosity will sustain scholarships for generations of students, ensuring they have access to an education that unlocks their full potential.
To honor his and Virginia's enduring impact, Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg established the Virginia and David Baldwin Legacy Society, celebrating those who, like the Baldwins, believe in the power of planned giving to create lasting change. Their legacy continues to inspire, ensuring that the opportunities they championed will endure for years to come.
